Leeds Castle

Wednesday July 17th

Today was another warm sunny one and Sue drove us off to Leeds Castle which was only about 30 mins drive away.
Leeds Castle is a classic story book castle complete with moat and turrets.

Well here I am with Mary and Alan in a delightful courtyard in the castle.

Help we are lost in the Maze.

The maze was hard and we got lost in it for quite a while. There was a kind man in the middle helping lost people like us.  He gave us a hint and soon we were on our way and into the middle where a nice surprise awaited us.  There was an underground grotto to visit.  It was on a see theme and the poem "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner was being recited to a background of sea sounds.
The Queen's bedroom. This bed was for show only and not slept in. The large state bed was for ceremonial purposes only where the queen would sit to welcome visitors.

Punting on the Moat.

Sue drove us home through lots of little villages rather than the motorway. It is a great way to see England. Some of the lanes are very narrow and often have hedgerows growing so high you can't see over them.  It also makes passing difficult at times, meaning it is hard to get past oncoming traffic.  Overtaking is not an option .
