Monday July 15
Hamish threw us a sheet as he was going to bed as he thought we might too hot with a duvet. He was not wrong. It doesn't even cool down over night. We have arrived in a heat wave. Sorry all you freezing people in NZ. The plan to avoid the NZ winter was inspired. This weather is meant to stay for the next 6 -8 weeks. We are not complaining.
The good thing is the washing dried very quickly outside. (Are we really in England) After lunch we set off for Sevenoakes to go and stay with Sue and Phil as had been planned. So instead of them picking up us Hamish and Lou took us down as they both had a day off. It turned out to be a great day out for them, well certainly for Bella. She amused us all afternoon. Sue has a big garden with lots of places to explore and get in lost in. She even managed to fall into the pond. There was a loud plop and Hamish and Lou rushed over to rescue her. She was dog paddling and had not got her head wet. She seemed pleased to be cooling off. She is still very much a puppy, only 4 months old so she is very mischievous.
When it got a bit cooler we all went for a walk over to Knole Park. This is the largest private house in England. We have visited here every time we have been in Kent. It is only a 5 minute walk away.
Bella found the dog bowl outside the main door and drank it dry as she was so thirsty from running around in the park. She was on her lead the whole time but she loved the wide open spaces and was interested in the deer.
Louise and Bella, Hamish, Phil,Sue and Mary with Knole in the background.
After Dinner Hamish and Louise left to drive home and we got ourselves off to bed.
