Chill Time

Saturday July 27th

Today Hamish dropped us off in Uxbridge. It was great to be back in a familiar place, but some of the shops we remembered had disappeared.
We caught the local bus back to High wycombe and it took us around the houses, Well through lots of picturesque villages with some very grand houses on the edges of the town.

A nice quiet evening at home looking after Bella as Hamish and Louise were out at a wedding.

Sunday July 28th
This was a rest day. Everyone got up late and after brunch we played Ticket to Ride. This was a new game to Hamsih and Louise. Craig and Amy have it and we were telling them about it and Louise orderd it from Amazon and it was waiting for her when we got back.

Monday July 29th
Today we met the other kiwis in the band for a walk at Burnham Beeches. It was a great place for a walk and there were lots of others dog walking. The  satnav took us to the Burnham Beeches Hotel rather than the park, but after consulting the map we eventually caught up with Mike, Miriam and their little Rosalie.
After we left them we went to the Royal Standard of England for a pub lunch.  This pub advertises itself as the oldest freehouse in England.  It is really quirky with low beamed ceilings and lots of nooks where you can eat.  There was so much to see.

If you are interested in the history of this wonderful pub and want a virtual tour. you can find more information here.  They have it all printed on the menu in a format that is impossible to read, so I looked it all up.  There are some wonderful photos on their website and a virtual tout.

It is really in the country down narrow lanes that has passing bays, but everyone finds it.  It has over 80 tables inside and out and is always busy.
